Picking the Right Colors for your Walls

Light yellow and blue can bring joy to a nurseryPicking the right colors for your room is no easy task. You don’t want to include too many colors and overwhelm the room with splashes of many different colors, but you don’t want just one color in a room either. We have 36 stock colors to use as well as a full color printer that can print any color you need.

The first step in figuring out your color scheme is to get inspiration! Go to idea websites like Pinterest. We have you covered on Pinterest with a board specifically for color ideas. Another great source is design-seeds.com. They match 6 colors together, some that you wouldn’t even think of! You can also check out your local Home Depot or another similar store and view their color selections to help you visualize the exact shades you want.

Another thing to consider when selecting your color scheme is the mood you want the room to set. Light colors make rooms seem larger and friendly, while darker colors are warmer and more sophisticated making the room feel more intimate. Below is a breakdown of what colors mean:
Red: Gives off energy and excitement to a room. Be careful with red though, it can be intense!
Blue: Creates a relaxing and calming atmosphere. Dark shades of blue as the main color can create feelings of sadness so it is better as an accent color.
Green: The most restful color on the eye. It pairs great with many colors and can be calming.
Orange: This colors screams excitement and energy. It may be better as an accent color and will work better in an exercise room than a living room.
Yellow: A happy color that brings joy and energy to a room. It is great for hallways and social areas to make guests feel welcome.
Purple: Dark purples are sophisticated and dramatic. Lighter purples bring a different mood that is more open and cheery.

Pantone recently named their 2014 color of the year as Radiant Orchid. Its burst with purple and pink undertones to create a beautiful color that matches well with many other colors. You could pair it with a yellow, other purple shades, pinks, and even shades of green or blue.

Some other examples of colors that work well together:
• Yellows, oranges and light blues
• Shades of blue with grey
• Light pinks and greens
• Bright red with mint and turquoise
• Dark browns with light blues and pinks
• Shades of purple with beige
